Our General English courses

You can study at these levels: A1-0 (Beginner), A1 (Elementary), A2 (Pre-Intermediate), B1 (Intermediate), B2 (Upper-Intermediate) and C1 (Advanced).

You will need to take a test to assess your level, and you will also complete a Needs Analysis form.

You can register for 1 week up to 48 weeks.

You can study in the morning (09.00 – 12.00), in the afternoon (12.30 – 15.30, or 16.00 – 19.00) or in the evening (19:10-21:10) Please check our timetable for further information. Link

We provide all the learning materials in class, and you can rent or buy the coursebook (£20 – £25, depending on the book) at reception.

All General English courses run throughout the year, but the school will be closed for Christmas and on Bank Holidays. There will be no classes on these days. Please check the academic calendar for more information.

PART TIME ENGLISH COURSE - 9 HOURS PER WEEK
PART TIME ENGLISH COURSE - 9 HOURS PER WEEK

A part-time General English course takes place 3 days per week and students can choose the days they want to attend. Students can choose between 3 different lessons times: 9am to 12pm, 12.30pm to 3.30pm and 4pm to 7pm. The flexible nature of this course means it is ideal for full-time workers or those students who have limited time or other commitments. *There is a 15 minute break in each lesson so the number of taught hours per week is 8 hours and 15 minutes.

FULL TIME ENGLISH COURSE - 15 HOURS PER WEEK
FULL TIME ENGLISH COURSE - 15 HOURS PER WEEK

A full-time General English course at Speak Up London is 15 hours per week, 3 hours per day*. Students can choose between 3 different lesson times : 9am to 12pm, 12.30pm to 3.30pm or from 4pm to 7pm. This full-time course is designed for those who want to combine learning English with enjoying London or working part-time. *There is a 15 minute break in each lesson so the number of hours taught per week is 13 hours and 45 mins per week.

INTENSIVE ENGLISH COURSE - 30 HOURS PER WEEK
INTENSIVE ENGLISH COURSE - 30 HOURS PER WEEK

The intensive English course takes place every day from Monday to Friday, 6 hours per day. Students can choose between the morning course from 9 am to 3.30pm and the afternoon course from 12.30pm to 7pm. The course is suitable for those students who want to study as much as possible in a short period of time. *There is a 15 minute break in each lesson so the number of hours taught per week is 27.5 hours per week. Our English school in London develops all aspects of the English language including speaking, pronunciation, listening, grammar, reading and writing. The focus is on improving your ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
During your English course you will be expected to participate as much as possible and work individually, in pairs and in groups as well as take part in whole class activities. All staff hold a valid ‘Enhanced DBS’check or staff will sign a declaration form until their DBS check is returned.

Each week you will be given homework and at the end of the week you will have opportunity to revise what you have learnt. Students can study quietly, do homework, read for pleasure or use one of our computers in the student lounge. There is free wi-fi throughout the school and the student lounge has a coffee machine and vending/snacks machine to save you time in your breaks.
Although the school promotes speaking in English as much as possible, we have multilingual staff available should you need to speak your native language.
